How does The Shim Shack's shim program work you ask.  Well... here is a brief overview explaining the program we have put in place:
  1. Log onto www.theshimshack.com

  2. Click on the link on the main navigation bar.

  3. Next pick your shim type from the list of shims by clicking on the appropriate image.

  4. Once you have selected the shim type you wish to create, enter your dimensions, pick your material thickness and type, enter the quantity you wish to have made, and hit the button.

(this is an illustration of a round washer form)

  5. If there is any problem with the shim you have submitted, you will be returned to the shim form immediately and your errors will be listed at the top of the shim in red. These errors must be corrected before you can add that shim to your shopping cart.

(this is an illustration of an error message while trying to submit a shim)

  6. If there is not any problem with the shim you have submitted, you will be directed to the quote cart. At this time, you can either submit your cart for quote or continue shopping.

  7. Once you complete the contact form and submit your cart for quote, SMD will review your quote cart, apply pricing to each line item and inform you of the pricing along with a RFQ #.

  8. If you wish to place the order, all you have to do is reference the RFQ # on your purchase order and we will process that RFQ # as an order.

  9. SMD will import your order into a DXF creation engine that converts all of your shim part numbers into DXF drawing files.

  10. We then place each of those DXF drawing files into our nesting software with quantity and your shims are nested into a sheet of the requested material type and thickness.

  11. Once the nest files are created, they are placed out on our network for our laser cutting machines to pick up and put in the queue.

  12. The nest file tells our material handling system, what material to pick up and load on the appropriate laser.

  13. The laser cuts all the shims nested in a sheet and offloads the sheet to an unloading station.

  14. The unloader removes the shims from the sheet, labels them, and packages them for UPS to pick up.
